In a surprising turn of events, President Bola Tinubu has directed the withdrawal of the nomination of Engr. Imam Kashim Imam to chair the Board of Directors of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

The President’s decision was announced through a press release on October 19, 2023, by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

This move comes after the 25-year-old nominee, Engr. Imam Kashim Imam, faced strong opposition despite his remarkable academic background.

The withdrawal suggests that the Presidency listens to public sentiment and feedback, particularly the online chatter, when it comes to appointments and other perceived effect.

The decision reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that its nominations align with the expectations and perceptions of the public.

It’s noteworthy that while Engr. Imam Kashim Imam’s nomination has been rescinded, this directive does not affect other appointments to the Board and Executive Management team of FERMA.

As a result, President Tinubu’s administration continues to navigate the delicate task of balancing competence with public opinion in its appointments to key positions.

This incident serves as a reminder of the increasingly influential role that public discourse plays in shaping government decisions and appointments, demonstrating the responsiveness of the government to the voice of the people.
